Statement on incident at Hilltop

Upon arriving at school Friday morning, Hilltop Elementary School staff discovered the building had received significant graffiti during the night. The graffiti was both racial and sexual in nature.

Though there is no school today in the district, several children and families were at Hilltop for our Spartan Kid’s Care program.

Police were alerted to the situation and pictures were taken. Clean-up began immediately. ISD 199 will assist local law enforcement in any way possible in the pursuit of those responsible. The district will also push for the strongest criminal charges possible.

“This kind of behavior will not be tolerated,” Superintendent Dave Bernhardson said. “We’re a diverse school district where all people are respected and embraced. This incident is not a reflection of who we are as a school district or a community.”
