Simley Volleyball vs. Mahtomedi

Formal dresses would have been more appropriate than uniforms as the Simley Girls volleyball team’s match against conference rival Mahtomedi turned into a coming out party for Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Stensgard. Sydney’s crucial kills at the ends of sets 1 & 3 combined with Senior Abby Stein’s shut down defense (11 digs in 11 attempts) led the Spartans to a straight set victory. The Zephyr’s have a normally unstoppable outside attack, but on Thursday, October 5th the Spartans threw up a vicious double and triple block featuring Senior Guresi Mena, Junior Adara Kellogg, and Sophomores Tiwaah Danso and Emily Heimerl to frustrate Mahtomedi and take away the Zephyr’s best strength. Seniors Ashley Perrin and Kayla Anderson turned in typically steady performances, while Sophomore Sydney Brady brought her passing skills to bear on the important points and 8th grader Bella Studer served the Zephyrs off the court in the second set. Junior Rachel Wanger added 33 assists and two sneaky setter kills.

The Girls Swim & Dive Team had a close meet against Tartan last night.  They lost 86-99.  But, it was a major improvement compared to last year's meet against Tartan.
