The Spartans girls basketball team came away with a hard fought win at Tartan on Wednesday night. Simley started the game slow on the offensive end, however as the half continued they calmed down and had a couple nice runs. Simley went into half-time with a 22-17 lead. Passing the ball and being strong with the ball were keys to the second half and because of it the girls game away with a 54-42 win.

The Gymnastics team won their last home dual meet against So. St. Paul last Thursday.  Final score was Simley 127.475 -So. St. Paul 119.075.

Top finishers were.

Zoe stone 3rd on vault and 2nd on floor

Kylie Selling 3rd in the all round and 2nd on Vault

Lane Paulson 2nd on bars

Morgan Johnson 2nd on bars and in the all round, and 1st on beam and on floor

Next Home meet will be Wednesday, February 7th when the Spartans host the JV Conference Tournament.

After that we will be hosting the 4A Sectional gymnastics tournament on February 17th to determine who will go to state and we would love massive fan support on that day!

On Friday night the boys basketball team honored our seniors and came away with a conference win against Hill Murray High School on Senior Night. Five seniors – Jake Binley, Skyler Clairmont, Jonah Milbrandt, Sam Vujovich, and Tyler Walker – took the floor for the opening tip with each player contributing key plays in the victory and each player scoring. The visiting Pioneers jumped out to a fast lead, but the Spartans quickly responded. The teams traded baskets for much of the first half with Hill Murray leading 38-37 at the start of the second half.

In the second half Hill Murray opened up a seven point lead and appeared in control of the game. But the Spartans responded with better defense and timely three point baskets from Tyler Walker and Milton Carnes as well as the steady play from Jake Binley to battle back. When Hill Murray tried to fight back, junior AJ Erickson delivered key defensive rebounds to halt any Pioneer run.

Four Spartans reached double digit point totals – Binley (24), Isaiah Robinson (15), Walker (14), Carnes (11).  The final score was Simley 79 & Hill Murray 69. The JV team won 85-38.
