Asha Saraswate and Belen Castro-Diaz are selling buttons for their NHS project to spread awareness for the #MeToo and the #NeverAgain movement. The buttons are $1 each and proceeds will go to Corey’s Closet. Corey’s Closet is an organization in our school that supplies students with personal care essentials such as shampoo, toothbrushes, non perishable food items and much more. Please find Asha or Belen to purchase a button. Or if you would like to donate any items, boxes will be located in the nurse’s office, student center and guidance office.



Simley Dance Team-- What an amazing season filled with some huge accomplishments: 1st Place in the Conference, 3nd place in jazz & high kick at Sections, 10th place at the State Jazz Tournament and 11th place at the State High Kick Tournament.  We wrapped up the 2017-2018 season with the following athletes earning recognition.

  • Most Valuable Player: Hailey Scheffknecht
  • Most Improved: Emma Search
  • Metro East All Conference: Jordan Boswell, Tatum Dunphy, Courtney Friemann, Hailey Scheffknecht
  • Metro East Honorable Mention: Gabby Overton, Nicole Perron, Olivia Schmidt
  • Rookie of the Year: Emma Search
  • Senior Academic Award (average GPA 3.85 or higher): Katie Alojado & Hailey Scheffknecht
  • Team Academic Award: Average GPA 3.46

Seniors - Your Senior Grad Fee is due March 23rd...That’s in 9 DAYS!   Payments can be made on Fee Pay or in person to Ms. Sievert in the Main Office.




Simley High School hosted the Region 3AA MSHSL Instrumental Solo & Ensemble on March 13th. Four schools were represented: Henry Sibley, Richfield, St. Thomas and Simley.  Each band student or ensemble prepared a musical selection and presented it to a judge.  They were graded in the following areas: tone quality, intonation, rhythm, balance and blend, technique, interpretation, articulation and execution.

Simley had 111 students participating in 95 entries. 46 students received a "Superior" rating; 44 students received a "Excellent" rating; 3 students received a "Good" rating, 1 student received a "Fair" rating and 1 student received "Comments Only".

Congratulations to the following students who received "Best of Site" from their judges: Will Hackerson, Taylor Ries, Brittany Raab, Phill Workman and the Percussion Ensemble of: Gabriel Alvear, Ian Anderson, Kayla Anderson, Jovanny Buchholz-Satar, Anna Cheyne, Henry Cleary, Rheanna Deal, Emma Deyo, Alaina Friske, Charles Isabell, Logan Karels, Daniel Kruse, Jocelyn Leafblad, Robert Skoglund, and Joseph Waska.

Thank you to all the parents and students who helped make this event a success!  We could not do this without instructors, accompanists, site monitors, runners, tally keepers, set up and tear down crew, and the support of parents.





Attention Girls Basketball Players - The Simley girls basketball banquet is Sunday, March 18th at 11:30 a.m. In the Simley Spartan Center.  Chipotle lunch is being served - includes drinks and dessert for $15.00.

Attention Golfers, Spring is Almost Here!!

Attention Golfers! There will be an informational meeting for parents and athletes TODAY, Wednesday, March 14th at 6:30 PM in the Spartan Center at Simley High School for those wanting to try out for the boys or girls high school golf teams. Reminder to all juniors who will be taking the ACT on April 3rd.

The ZAPS ACT Test Prep Seminar will be held this  Saturday March 17th in the Spartan Center. Students will learn strategies and tips to improve scores for all subtests in the exam.  This course will also help students to gain confidence and reduce test anxiety. All students interested in PSEO must schedule a short meeting with their counselor prior to Friday, March 23rd.  Please stop by the guidance office or email your counselor directly.




The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be taking place at Simley on Friday, April 6th!  Donors can sign up during all lunches starting this week.  Students 16 years old need to pick up a parent consent form prior to signing up.  Did you know? There is no blood substitute and still only one source for transfusion...VOLUNTEER BLOOD DONORS!  Any questions please see Ms Erdman or student volunteers at the blood drive table during all lunches.




The Simley All Night Party committee will be meeting TODAY, Wednesday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. outside the high school IMC.  All grade parents encouraged to attend to plan a night our seniors will remember.




March 12th-16th  - Seniors Mackenzie Sullivan and Julia Remackel are coordinating a food drive for their NHS project. All of the items collected will be donated to families in need within our own community. Containers are located in the Dean’s office and any donation is appreciated. Simley’s Relay For Life will be taking place overnight from Friday April 27th to Saturday the 28th. We encourage all students, staff, and community members to participate in this amazing and impactful event. Interested in trying out for the 2018-2019 Simley Dance Team?  Tryouts for both the Fall Performance Team and the Winter Competitive Team will be held the week of March 19th.  Practices will be on Monday, March 19th and Tuesday, March 20th from 4-5pm and 5:30-6:30pm and Thursday, March 22nd from 5-6:15pm.  Dancers will know if they made the team before they leave practice on Thursday. Starting Wednesday, March 7th, Senior Hailey Scheffknecht will be collecting clothes for Neighbors Inc clothes closet for her NHS project. The box will be in the counseling office until Friday, March 16th.




Monday, March 12th will be the start of book drive held by Guresi Mena and Grace Bezek to donate to the Salvation Army. If you have any books to donate, please turn them into the boxes located in the Student Center and outside of the Nurses office. For any other questions, please contact Guresi or Grace and they would be happy to help.

 


Registration is now open for Spring Sports!  Register through Feepay. If your family has reached the fee maximum for the school year, contact Mrs. Madigan to adjust the fee prior to registering. Maximum activity fees per school year are

$290(1 participant per family), $400 (2 participants per family) and $500 (3 or more participants per family). The maximum fee applies to students in grades 6-12.

The start dates are:

March 6 - Adapted Bowling & Adapted Softball

March 12 - Boys & Girls Track, Baseball and Softball

March 19 - Boys & Girls Golf

March 26 - Boys Tennis

April 2 - Boys Lacrosse




 

Student Parking Lot- Only students with a Simley parking pass are allowed to park in the student lot. If you do not have a pass, you must park off campus. Students found parked in the

lot with a pass may be ticketed, booted etc. See Ms. Sievert in the main office if you have questions.



Reminder to Simley students - You are NOT allowed to be in the middle school. This includes cutting through the middle school in the morning and afternoons when arriving to or leaving from school.
