Testing News for families of 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders

Good Afternoon Hilltop Families,

Students in grades 3-5 will soon be participating in statewide testing.  The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) will be given during the testing window of April 4th - May 6th.  During this testing window, it is very important that students arrive to school on time.  Testing will be taken on a computer and will take place first thing each morning during the testing window dates.  Students in grades 3 and 4 will test approximately four mornings a week.  Students in grade 5 will test five mornings a week.

Grades 3 and 4 will be tested on academic standards in mathematics and reading.  Grade 5 will be tested in mathematics, reading, and science.  The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has several helpful documents on their website to answer any questions you may have (in the attached Parent Fact Sheet).  The MDE website also provides test samplers that represent example test items that students are expected to answer at their respective grade level (attached).

Please feel free to print out the sampler booklets for your children to use as practice.

If you have any questions regarding testing, please send me an email.  This is a great time for your children to show what they know!

Thank you,

Sue Vallafskey
