Attention German Club Members - There is a German Club Meeting on Friday, 10/5 at 7:15 a.m. in Mr. Mitchell’s room.



Yesterday the Cross Country teams competed at the Trinity Invite in Farmington. The girls took 4th out of 15 teams with 101 points, led by Sarah Anaya in 11th, Brekken Grathen in 14th, Simone Lorentz 22nd, Julia Myers 25th, and Kait Corey 29th.  

The boys took 7th of 19 teams with 226pts, led by Grant Dilla and Gabe Alvear finishing 10th and 18th.  



Senior Cally Cunningham scored the lone goal of the Soccer game against section opponent Highland Park in the 33rd minute, giving the Spartans its fifth straight victory. The goal came off of a pass from senior Natalie Leeder who was able to find a seam in Highland Park’s back line. Cunningham fired a shot to the far post over the goalkeeper. With the victory, the Spartans have now reached ten wins for the second straight year.

The Spartans conclude their regular season TOMORROW, Thursday, October 4th playing an away game against conference opponent Hill Murray. Boys kickoff at 5pm and girls will follow at 7pm.




Simley TRAP TEAM Demo, Saturday 10/6/2018 – If you are interested in learning what the Simley High School Club Sport of Trap Shooting is all about, the coaching staff is having an informational meeting this Saturday October 6th at the So. St. Paul Gun Club(600 Gun Club Rd, South St Paul, MN 55075). There will be an opportunity to ask questions, see what equipment is needed, see a sample schedule and costs from 2018 Spring Season and a live demonstration. The time is from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, no appointment is needed. Dress for the weather. Ask in the clubhouse for the field that Simley is on. Already have your MN DNR Firearms Safety Certificate, bring your gear and give it a try. Registration for 2019 Spring will begin late January 2019.


The Simley football team has been nominated for Team of the Week by Northstar Football. If you have a chance check out the link and vote for your Spartans. The kids have been playing their hearts out this year and deserve this recognition.

A representative from the following colleges will be visiting Simley at the specified dates and times. If you are interested in learning more about a college and hearing from an admission representative from their school, sign-up and get a pass from Ms. Kimble in the Student Center.

Interested in joining the 2018-2019 Simley Dance Team?  Winter Competitive Team tryout practices will take place on Monday, October 22nd and Tuesday, October 23rd from 4:00-5:00pm & 5:15-6:15pm. Please do your best to be at all practices. Tryouts and Team Placements will take place on Tuesday, October 23rd from 6:30-7:30pm.  If you are currently in grades 7-12, you are welcome to tryout. If you are thinking of joining the Alpine Ski Team or just love to ski, there is a ski swaps that provides a good opportunity to get used equipment at a reasonable price.  The swap is at Afton Alps October 5-14.  You can google “Afton Ski Swap” for specific details.



Parents, can you recognize hazards to your adolescent that are often in plain sight? Attend the Top Secret presentation at the Dakota County - Northern Service Center. (1 Mendota Rd, West St. Paul.) and see if you can pick out one or more of 150 hazards in a simulated teenage bedroom.

The Top Secret Project is a unique traveling exhibit designed to help parents and school professionals recognize unfamiliar hazards to youth that are often in plain sight. Using a simulated teenager's bedroom, the interactive exhibit includes hundreds of items when seen through an educated lens, could be a signal there's a problem.

The exhibit is interactive and accompanied by a presentation and a discussion with Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation staff and members of our partnering agencies to enhance content. Preregistration is appreciated but not required.




Nicole Perron and Rachel Wolfe are collecting donations for their senior NHS project. They are collecting school supplies, art supplies, and books. There will be a bin in the front office for you to place your donated items. Thank you!


 

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) will be offered at Simley on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. The standardized test is optional and acts as a precursor to the SAT and is also the qualifying test for the National Merit distinction. If you have questions about if the test is right for you, check with your counselor. The cost of the exam is $21.00. Registration is online will close on Friday, October 5, 2018. See Ms. Kimble for a student guide and practice exam after you register.


 

Spartan gear has been delivered! Anyone who ordered Spartan gear from General Sports at the beginning of September and chose for it to be shipped to the school can pick up their order in the Simley main office.

Attention SENIORS:

It's not too early to begin thinking about graduation.  Counselors will be meeting with all seniors over the next few months to discuss important information regarding your senior year so watch for a pass from your individual counselor.  If you visit the Simley webpage, there is a special link just for seniors, with important dates for the year as well as a link to order your cap/gown & diploma.  The deadline to order is December 3rd but we would appreciate you taking care of this as soon as possible.  


 

 

ACT PREP COURSES

Get prepared for your ACT Test! This class provides an introduction to the ACT format, strategies for answering questions and instruction for the specific subject areas tested. Focal points of the program include diagnostic testing, vocabulary development, intensive mathematical review, reading comprehension improvement, and anxiety and time management. Students who complete a course may repeat it as often as they wish in future offerings – free of charge. All class materials are included in the tuition fee. Reminder to Simley students - You are NOT allowed to be in the middle school. This includes cutting through the middle school in the morning and afternoons when arriving to or leaving from school.
