Food Shelf Project

Students' Food Shelf Helps Summer School Students

Simley and South St. Paul students who built the food shelf and its resultsDuring the 2018-2019 school year, TriDistrict Healthcare Careers and Medicine course students from Simley High School and South St. Paul Secondary worked with Simley Dean of Students, Rico Bohren, to set up a food shelf. With donations spurred by Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins, students were able to build a space for the food shelf and begin to stock it.

This summer, the food shelf had a chance to serve students who may not have access to food outside of school. Simley staff, including Promise Fellows who work closely with struggling students, invited Simley Summer School students to discretely pick up food and hygiene products such as water bottles, cereal, ramen noodles, and fruit cups to help them and their families while school is not in session. Any child can also receive a free meal, breakfast or lunch, at any ISD 199 school offering Free Summer Meals through August 2.

Thank you to all of the students, staff, and community members who made the food shelf a reality, including donors:
