Sherry Warrick

Sherry WarrickWhy do you want to be a member of the ISD 199 School Board?
I would like to be on the ISD 199 School Board for another 4 years because it is a good team of people who have the best interests of students and staff in mind. Additionally, we have a great leader, our superintendent, who brings positivity and vision to our community.

What experience do you bring to this position? How have your experiences prepared you to fulfill the responsibilities of a school board member?
I am currently a substitute teacher for a school I formally taught full-time. I see and hear the frustrations and successes of staff and students firsthand. I had the opportunity to teach in the state of Texas amongst a variety of different ethnicities and social backgrounds. My husband and I have 3 boys who have attended District 199 elementary, middle, and high school, with our youngest, a junior, at Simley High School.

What are the most important issues concerning the Inver Grove Heights School District and how would you address them?
  1. Personalized Learning: Teaching styles to reach all learners, to get all students engaged, and to continue to support Engage 199.
  2. Mental Health/Emotional: Teachers have some training in this area. We can’t expect teachers to be psychologists in defining behaviors. I will continue to support programs that will help close this gap and strengthen relationships.
  3. Equity: Give kids what they need to be productive citizens. I will support programs that encourage equity to ensure our students are ready emotionally, physically, and socially.
