Atheneum Math Masters Earn Top Awards

Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program students brought home several awards after participating in the Math Masters 2021 Virtual Competition. The competition, which is usually held in-person, was held virtually for the first time this year. Despite the new format, Atheneum students were able to win multiple awards against 117 individual students and 24 teams.

Rounds included fact drills and problem solving. Fact Drills challenged students with order of operations problems and the Problem Solving rounds challenged students with word problems that dealt with everything from algebra to probability.

Atheneum’s four teams, two coached by Atheneum 5th Grade Teacher Jessica Swanson and two by Atheneum 5th Grade Teacher Kim Westra, placed in their competition:

  • 2nd Place: Mrs. Westra’s Team 2W
  • 3rd Place: Mrs. Swanson’s Team 2S
  • 4th Place: Mrs. Westra’s Team 1W
  • 5th Place: Mrs. Swanson’s Team 1S

In the Individual and Fact Drill rounds, Atheneum students won some of the top spots:

  • 2nd Place: Alexis To
  • 9th Place: Kunal Aki
  • 10th Place: Joseph Kelecic
  • 11th Place: Rishik Kondadadi
  • 13th Place: Theodore Johnson

  • 2nd Place (tie): Anvith Pothula
  • 8th Place: Nivrit Kotturi
  • 15th Place: Kunal Aki
