Special Diet Request

If your child requires special diet considerations or needs lactose-free milk, please review the following information.

When implementing the guidelines of the USDA school meal regulations, school nutrition personnel will work closely with the parent(s)/guardian(s) and with all other medical and community personnel who are responsible for the health, well-being, and education of a participant with a disability that affects the diet to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made to allow the individual’s participation in the meal service.

Generally, children with food allergies or intolerance do not have a disability as defined by law, and the school food service may, but is not required to, make food substitutions for them. However, when food allergies result in severe, life-threatening (anaphylactic) reactions, the child’s condition would likely meet the definition of “disability” and the substitutions prescribed by the licensed, medical physician must be made.

Lactose Intolerance

Inver Grove Heights Schools will provide lactose-reduced milk for children with lactose intolerance. Please complete the Special Diet Statement Form at the bottom of this page and return to your school's cafeteria.
