Facilities & Safety
ISD 199 Facilities & Safety supports the educational mission of the district. This is accomplished by providing well-maintained, clean, healthy, and safe facilities for students, staff, and the community.
The department manages 760,000 square feet of building space and 115 acres of property with a staff of 32 full-time facilities employees. Our buildings and property are assets owned by the public, and all Facilities & Safety staff are committed to making them last for generations of future students.
Facilities & Maintenance
The years between 2006 and 2016 have seen tremendous activity in terms of capital improvements and expansion for district facilities. We built a new middle school and new additions onto Simley High School, Salem Hills Elementary, and Hilltop Elementary for a total of nearly 160,000 square feet of new interior learning space.
All buildings have been remodeled as well and received major upgrades or replacements to heating, ventilating, and cooling systems to improve the indoor learning and working environment.
During all of this activity, the Facilities team has kept up with cleaning and maintenance, despite the challenges that such construction creates. Our staff is dedicated to maintaining district facilities and grounds to provide the best opportunities to students and our community.
Health & Safety
In addition to district facilities and grounds, the department also supports student learning by ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, visitors, and its community. It oversees:
-
Environmental compliance, such as asbestos management, indoor air quality, and pesticide management;
-
Fire prevention and code compliance; and
-
Occupational safety compliance, including staff training
