Food Service

The Food Service Dept. is now using the SchoolCafe platform for families to manage student accounts & balances, PIN numbers, meal planning, applying for Education Benefits, and school meal components.
The ISD 199 Food Service team is dedicated to offering quality, healthy, and well-balanced meals to all students every day. We believe that school meals are a vital part of a student's school experience. We know that access to nutritious meals during the school day promotes physical and mental development as well as better academic performance.
School Meals
ISD 199 participates in Minnesota’s Free School Meals Program. All students can get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each day at school. A la carte items, single milks, extra entrees, and second meals are an out-of-pocket cost.
While one breakfast and one lunch are free each day for students, we strongly encourage all families to complete an Application for Educational Benefits. This program helps qualifying families receive a variety of discounts on things like athletics/activity fees, internet and phone services, and membership opportunities.
Applications are also essential for ISD 199. These applications help determine the school's level of eligibility for grants, as well as the state and federal dollars allocated to each school. A new application must be filled out at the beginning of each school year. If your household's financial situation changes during the school year, an application may be filled out at any time with the updated information.
Educational Benefits
While all Minnesota students now receive free school breakfast and lunch, it is still essential for families to submit an Educational Benefits Application. When families apply, it can help schools access important funding for academic support, classroom resources, and more. Qualifying families also receive valuable benefits like fee waivers for school activities, college applications, and standardized tests.
By completing the application, you’re helping your school and community thrive.

Summer Meals
Food Service offers meals when school is out for the summer. Our department also teams up with The Open Door Mobile Lunch Box program to make meals more accessible for kids all over Inver Grove Heights. Kids 18 and younger can visit a participating site for a free breakfast or lunch. Meals served at school locations must be eaten on site.
Wellness
ISD 199's Wellness Committee works to promote a school environment that supports the health and wellbeing of both students and staff while fostering a positive learning climate for all. This work includes communicating the ISD 199 Wellness Policy, reviewing and assessing the implementation of school meal and wellness practices, and engaging in ongoing reflection to strengthen opportunities for physical activity, healthy habits, and social-emotional wellbeing throughout the school community.
The Wellness Committee meets three to four times per year.
