American Indian Education Program
ISD 199 is grateful for the chance to have formed an American Indian Education Program thanks to the state's American Indian Education Aid program. The district and the American Indian Education Program aim to strengthen and support our diverse families by providing a culturally appropriate educational environment.
Some of the FREE services our American Indian Education Program provides include, but are not limited to:
- Academic support
- Family/Community resources and advocacy
- Cultural events and activities
- College visits and post-secondary preparations
- Native resource library
Goals
- Establish a strong community that supports the educational needs of American Indian students through an active American Indian Parent Committee
- 8-10 parents/guardians are needed to volunteer on the committee. Contact Ms. Mansfield if you are interested in participating.
- Develop activities that support academic learning
- Tutoring and mentor programs
- Community resource list
- Activities that reaffirm the importance of an education that's rooted in cultural pride
Eligibility
Any student with American Indian ancestry who fits one of the following qualifications is eligible to join the ISD 199's American Indian Education Program:
- Enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe
- Parent is an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe
- Grandparent is an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe
One of the above criteria must apply. Per federal requirement, a 506 form must be filled out by the legal guardian and on file at the district's Indian Education Office. Click here for the 506 Form. ALL INFORMATION IS CONFIDENTIAL. You do not have to fill out a 506 form. However, if you choose not to submit a form, the district cannot count your child for funding under the program.
