ISD 199 Students Work Together to Place Eighth in National Vocabulary Competition

A team of students from Inver Grove Heights Schools achieved Highest Honors in the recent WordMasters Challenge™, a national vocabulary competition that nearly 125,000 students participate in each year. The team of Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program and Pine Bend Elementary School students earned 182 points out of 200 possible points during their second meet of the year. Their final score earned them eighth place in the nation.
Students prepared for the WordMasters Challenge™ by learning words above grade level and using them to solve analogies during the competition. Students competed in the challenge’s difficult Blue Division and its very difficult Gold Division. Pine Bend fourth graders Aili Keran and Giana Uebel and Pine Bend fifth grader Mila Sarver achieved outstanding results in the Blue Division while Atheneum fifth grader Oliver Pierce achieved outstanding results in the Gold Division.
The team was led by Pine Bend teachers Nancy Gagne and Ben Peine and Atheneum teacher Jessica Swanson.
Congratulations to the team on earning eighth place in the nation and to the students who earned outstanding scores for their team. Good luck to the team as they prepare for the last WordMasters Challenge™ meet for 2022-2023 this spring.
