The Simley Girls Volleyball team opened its Metro East campaign on the road at Hastings on Thursday, September 8th. Traditionally a difficult venue for the Spartans, but not in 2017 as Simley dominated the Raiders in straight sets including the 3rd set win. After trailing 1-9 in the decisive third set, the Spartans bellowed “Enough!” and rallied with 8 straight points, reestablished their earlier control, and walked the match out winning 24 of the last 33 points. Seniors Kayla Anderson, Guresi Mena, Ashley Perrin, and Abby Stein were solid yet again. Junior Setter Rachel Wanger added 28 assists and a team high 4 blocks, while Junior Middle Hitter Adara Kellogg was the recipient of Wanger’s largesse hitting .545. Sophomores Emma Heimerl, Ravyn Miles, and Sydney Stensgard brought their guns to bear from the outside with 11 kills while hitting a combined .500, while Junior Sydney Brady and 8th grader Bella Studer anchored the back row.
