Cold Noses, Warm Hearts

History:

13 years ago a teacher found out that one of our middle school families was homeless and living in their car.  After further investigation, she realized that this was not an isolated incident for some of our families.  She had to find a way to help out! She teamed up with Neighbor’s Inc. (a community organization) that focuses on helping families and getting them back on their feet.

With the help of our generous staff, students and families, over the past twelve years we have raised nearly $15,000 and have been able to adopt over 30 families, all of which live in IGH and have middle school age students.  This helped to make all of their seasons a little brighter!

This year we are running the Cold Noses, Warm Hearts campaign again.  We realize it is a hard economic time for many, but that means that Neighbor’s Inc. will have even more families to serve/help.  They are expecting a need to help over 1,000 families this year!  Our school’s goal is to help four families, with the hopes to add more as we raise money.

Plan:

Our money collection will be similar to years’ past:  we will collect donations in our advisory classes.  Each advisory class can set a goal and collect donations.  All donations are due by Friday, December 7th.

Each advisory that collects $50 will earn Freezies for their class, if they collect $100 they will earn Bonus Open Gym time and the Freezies. Top 2 classes that bring money in will earn a class pizza party!!

As a school, if we collect $700 Jodi Wendel will wear Crazy Hair for a day, if we collect $800 Ms. Schwecke, Mr. Golden, and Mrs. Dietzenbach will let students throw a pie at their face in each lunch, and if we collect $1000 Mr. Chappuis will get slimed in front of the top earning grade.

We will also hold a Hat Day on Wednesday, December 5th.  Students will purchase a sticker from their 1st hour teacher for $1 and then earn the privilege to wear their hat that day.  All money donated from this event will be added to the overall donation from the school.  We typically raise about $400 on this day, so please encourage students to donate and participate in Hat Day! This hat day money does not count toward the advisory collections, but will go towards any school goals.

Student Council, with the help of Matt Chappuis, will help to promote and encourage this event. Families and staff can also donate. Additional donations can be delivered to the advisory teachers or Matt Chappuis in the Main Office by Friday, December 7th.

We thank you for your help and support with this wonderful tradition of giving!

Career Day

The IGHMS 8th Grade Career Day is coming soon! We are looking for members of our community who would be willing to join us in educating our students about all of the career options available. We are planning it for Friday, February 15th from approximately 7:30am until 9:30am. You will be asked to give a 20 minute presentation to 4 different groups of 8thgrade students about your career. Your presence is a great example of the partnership that schools and communities can share; and will assist our students in making better, more informed choices in school and in life after school.

If you are interested in joining us on this day, or for more information, please email Jennell Garten at [email protected] or Jess Maloney at [email protected].

In advance, thank you for your consideration!
