With the Simley Spartans girls hockey team only winning one of their last seven games, they were hungry for a win. That win came Tuesday night in a big way when they beat St. Paul/Henry Sibley 6-0. Although Simley completely dominated, and outshot the Riveters in the first period 12-0, they were unable to capitalize, and the period ended 0-0. The 2nd period is when things began to unravel for the Riveters. Jr. Avery Schwark netted two goals, and Jr. Jordan Juers added a goal for a score of 3-0 in favor of Simley at the end of the 2nd. With the Spartans completely in control of the game, the 3rd period saw goals from Fr. Alex Fredeen, her first varsity goal, Schwark (hat trick), and Sr. Captain Molly Illetschko. Assists throughout the game went to J. Juers, E. Tuccitto, A. Schwark, S. Roche, A. Jeffers, K. Johnson, and O. Patnode. Shot totals were 40-2 in favor of the Spartans, and Jr. goaltender Ava Patnode was awarded another shut out. Next up will be a rematch against North/Tartan Friday night at Tartan Arena.

The girls basketball team started fast and furious against St. Paul Central. Great passing and teamwork by all the players.  Ysareia lead Simley with 25 points followed by Tiwaah and Sydeny with 16 and 11. The final score was 71-40.

The team is off now until the holiday tournament Dec 27-28 at Park Center.

North St. Paul was coming off a win against #1 ranked DeLaSalle but the Simley Boys Basketball team kept the game close in the first half at North St. Paul with a score of 36-38 at the half. North St. Paul opened the second half on a run putting them up 64-44 with 10 minutes to play but Simley battled back with good defense which led to a 16 to 4 run of their own to cut the lead to just 6 with 4 minutes to play. North St. Paul made plays down the stretch while Simley struggled to score at the free throw line. Simley ended up on the short end with a final score of 83-73 and falls to 4-2 overall. In the loss, Isaiah Robinson scored 24 points, Breyton Buysman added 16 and Ben Vujovich chipped in 13 points. Simley next plays at Park of Cottage Grove on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
