Students traveling to Spain and Italy with Mrs. Valencia in June should attend a meeting TOMORROW, Thursday, January 10th at 7:15am in room EA 201.

Attention all 7-12 girls and parents that would like to help start the first year of Girls Lacrosse at Simley High School.  There will be a meeting at 7PM at the VMCC on Monday, January 14 for all parents and players that are interested in being part of the first season.

Congratulations to the Boys’ Swimming & Diving team for their wins against Orono High School (62-40) and Mound-Westonka High School (83-18) last night.  Individual winners were: Andrew Perrin won the 200 I.M., Michael Schmalz won the 50 free & 100 breaststroke; Garrett Kaiser won the 1-meter diving; Eric Petschl won the 500 free; Brandon Petryszyn won the 100 backstroke. The team of Brandon Petryszyn, Michael Schmalz, Sam Montague, and Andrew Perrin won the 200 Medley Relay.  A special congratulations to Michael Schmalz for breaking the oldest Orono High School pool record on the record board!  He broke the all time 100 breaststroke pool record from 18 years ago (2001)!  The Spartans next meet is Parents' Night tomorrow night at the Grove against North St. Paul.

Congratulations to the girls basketball team for their 61-43 win over Sibley last night. The team travels to Kasson Mantorville on Saturday and will play New Ulm at 1 p.m.

It took overtime, but the Spartans Girls Hockey team beat Hastings 2-1. Hastings was first to score in the 2nd period, on the power play. The Spartans tied it when Ella Tuccitto (K. Johnson) made a nice move to fool the goalie. It was a scoreless 3rd period, and with the score tied 1-1 the game headed into overtime. It didn’t take long. The Spartans were buzzing the net when Molly Illetschko (A. Schwark, J. Juers) found an opening, and gave the Spartans the victory. Goaltender Ava Patnode was awarded the win, stopping 11 of 12 shots faced. Next up will be a conference rematch with the Riveters from St. Paul/Hendry Sibley next Tuesday, 1/15.

During January, Erica Rettinger will be collecting school supplies in the Main office for Salem Hills for her NHS project. Any Donations are appreciated.

The Simley Theatre Booster Club will be meeting on Tuesday, January 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Simley IMC. Parents with students participating in theatre are strongly encouraged to attend.

They also have a unique opportunity of having a second photographer there to take photos of seniors who did not take a senior photo for any reason. If possible can this message go into the parent announcements?

Attention parents and guardians of seniors: If your student did not take and submit senior photos, but would still like to be in the yearbook, please contact Ms. Hensch ([email protected]) to reserve a photo time. Lifetouch will be at Simley on January 25th to take professional photos of seniors who want to be in the senior portrait section of the yearbook, but were unable to take photos on their own. This service is free of charge to all students. If your student did take senior photos but has not yet submitted them, please send them to [email protected].
