After one of the coldest weeks on record, the Spartans looked to continue the deep freeze on the Hastings Raiders Friday night. Things remained even until the 2nd period. Jordan Juers (M. Illetschko) would put a shot on net that would find its way past the goalie to put Simley up 1-0. The Spartans would hold that lead and add one more goal in the 3rd from Ella Tuccitto (A. Jeffers). With two minutes remaining, The Simley girls would find themselves on the penalty kill. It would be 6 on 4 once Hastings decided to pull the goalie. The Spartans dug deep, and were determined to hold on for the 2-0 win. With yet another strong defensive game by the team, Goaltender Ava Patnode was able to record her 6th shutout, stopping all 18 shots faced. The Spartans will play their final regular season game Tuesday, when Chisago Lakes comes to VMCC for Senior Night.

Congratulations to the girls Basketball team for their 56-44 win over Hastings on Friday night!  The Spartans played some great team defense again holding Hasting’s best player to only 11 points and 19 total 1st half points for the team. Simley was lead by Zareia, Sydney and Bonita with 18, 16 and 8 points respectively.

The Simley Alpine Ski Team finished their regular season with their best team performances of the season. Sarah Anaya led the girl’s team with a 6th place overall finish while the top three Simley boys finished tightly grouped at 13th, 14th and 15th overall. Tommy Arends led the team followed closely by Riley Arneson and Ben Borchard. The team will be racing this Wednesday (2/6) in the Section 4 Race at Wild Mountain where about 240 racers from 20 different schools will compete to go to state.
