Continuing Announcements

Cold Noses, Warm Hearts

History:

14 years ago a teacher found out that one of our middle school families was homeless and living in their car.  After further investigation, she realized that this was not an isolated incident for some of our families.  She had to find a way to help out! She teamed up with Neighbor’s Inc. (a community organization) that focuses on helping families and getting them back on their feet.

With the help of our generous staff, students and families, over the past fifteen years we have raised nearly $15,000 and have been able to adopt over 30 families, all of which live in IGH and have middle school age students.  This helped to make all of their seasons a little brighter!

This year we are running the Cold Noses, Warm Hearts campaign again.  We realize it is a hard economic time for many, but that means that Neighbor’s Inc. will have even more families to serve/help.  They are expecting a need to help over 1,000 families this year!  Our school’s goal is to help 3-4 families, with the hopes to add more as we raise money ($700-$1000).

Plan:

Our money collection will be similar to years’ past:  we will collect donations in our advisory classes.  Each advisory class can set a goal and collect donations.  All donations are due by Friday, December 6th. Top advisory at the end of this week (Nov. 25th-27th) will get a donut party and the top advisor after the two weeks will get a pizza party.

Student Council, with the help of Matt Chappuis, will help to promote and encourage this event. Families and staff can also donate. Additional donations can be delivered to the advisory teachers or Matt Chappuis in the Main Office by Friday, December 6th.

We thank you for your help and support with this wonderful tradition of giving!

Extended Learning Days

In 2017, the Minnesota legislature amended its state statute on school year requirements to allow schools to use “e-learning days” when faced with dangerous winter weather. Schools can use these e-learning days, known as Extended Learning Days in the Inver Grove Heights Schools District, for up to five days per school year when schools close due to inclement weather. Each Extended Learning Day that schools use counts as a full school day to keep student learning on track and alleviate the need to add makeup days at the end of the school year.

Extended Learning Days will be used after two Snow or Cold Days cancel school. On the third day, families will receive an automated call that will state the reason that school will be canceled and that it is an Extended Learning Day. Click here to learn more about Extended Learning Days.
