Simley Announcements 10-7-21

New Announcements:

43 Minutes. That’s how long it took the Simley Girls Volleyball team to defeat cross town rival South St. Paul on Wednesday, October 6th. The score reflected the time spent as the Spartans were never challenged winning 25-6, 25-5, 25-14, while moving its Metro East record to 4-1. One of the mantras the team constantly hears is that you must first worry about what is happening on our side of the court. However strong the opponent, they cannot control what you do with the ball when it crosses net. This was heard strong and clear against the Packers. Every point starts with a serve and the players had their best serving night of the season missing only two serves and posting a 97% total. On offense, the Spartans also had their best attack of the year on display: 31 kills in just 63 attempts for an incredibly high 49% kill percentage.

Individual highlights were many. Sophomore outside hitter Anesya McElmury, starting all three sets in a conference match for the first time this season, merely hit .500. Junior Summer Scofield put on an offensive clinic out of the middle leading Simley with a preposterous 9 kills in only 13 attempts for a kill percentage of 69%. Senior right side hitters Chomp Danso and Malia Miller hit .500 with no hitting or digging errors on the night. Defensive specialists Seniors Joana Jimenez and Alyssa Lucio, along with Sophomore Kelsi Ries, were downright stingy denying the Packers any chance to get their offense on track. Sophomore middle hitter Avery Renslow blasted the ball through SSP’s block on several beautiful slides, while Junior outside hitter Naomi Romslo anchored the left side with 7 kills. On a night with such dominating offense, it is easy for everyone except the coaches to overlook the setter. Senior Lauren Tuccitto had an unforgettable night from the setting position: 20 assists – 3 aces and 100% serving – 100% digging – 5 kills in just 6 attempts – 0 blocks just to keep her humble.

It gets tougher for the Spartans next week with 3 challenging matches including Visitation on Monday on the road, Two Rivers at home on Wednesday, and Senior Night against North St. Paul on Thursday.

This Saturday the Simley Cross Country teams will be hosting the Simley Invitational on the high school trails and fields. 5 races will be contested on this challenging and very spectator friendly course, starting at 10:00 a.m. for Middle Schoolers, JV girls at 10:30, JV boys at 11:00, Varsity girls at 11:30, and Varsity boys at Noon. It looks to be a great morning to run and cheer on the Spartans in their final competition before the Metro East Championships.

Becoming Organizers, Becoming Advocates (BOBA), is an Asian Minnesotan youth leadership and organizing program co-created with young people. BOBA offers a safe and brave space for Asian Minnesotan youth to come together to discover how their identity and leadership make them a powerful force for change. Through BOBA, young leaders explore topics and issues that impact them and their communities, learn advocacy and organizing skills, and create solutions that they can take action on to create change. We are recruiting youth to join us for our 2021-2022 cohort and would like to share this opportunity with you. For more information, see your counselor.

Supply Shortages Cause Frequent Menu Changes

Just like cafeterias and restaurants across the country, ISD 199 Food Service is experiencing many challenges receiving the products staff have ordered due to manufacturer shortages and delivery delays. These shortages and delays are affecting ingredients, menu items, and serving supplies, such as meal trays.

Food service staff will update their online menus as quickly as possible when changes need to be made. However, last minute changes and product substitutions may occur without notice due to shortages and the number of students eating meals that day. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we do our best to meet the needs of all students.

Student Council is looking for students in grades 9-12 who want to serve in leadership roles by planning school events that help both Simley and the greater community. The first meeting will be at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 7th in the Student Center. Everyone is welcome. See Ms. Ney or Ms. Hensch with any questions.

In order to get your son/daughter registered for sports you need to follow the link below to our new registration site; SmartSchool K12. When you arrive at the home site of the user portal, you will see guides available that will walk you through the registration process and setting up your parent portal, step by step.

When you are connecting your student to your parent account, you will need the STUDENT ID and their DATE OF BIRTH. You WILL NOT use a family key.

Once you are registered and you have added your student to your account, please make sure to go into your settings and add a "Funding Source". This will allow you to complete your purchases upon checkout. Do not auto-fill this section as it will not work due to security reasons.

Earlier this year we had a lot of issues with different browsers when families were registering. Please attempt to use FireFox, as it is the most successful.

Do not hesitate to contact the activities office if you have any questions. 651-306-7001
