ISD 199 on the Ballot

No school board elections or other district measures are scheduled for 2025

ISD 199 holds school board elections on even years, with the exception of seats that are vacated before the end of their term. The district also puts ballot measures like Operating Levy and Capital Projects levies on the local ballot when necessary. This may be in May, August, or November of an even or an odd year. The district will work to inform its community about any of its measures or elections.

School Board Elections

School board elections that were originally scheduled to be held in 2025 will be held in 2026 as ISD 199 begins holding school board elections in even years.

In November of even years, when a school board member's term is set to end, residents living within Inver Grove Heights Schools boundaries elect school board candidates to any open seats on the seven-member ISD 199 School Board. Even-year elections were approved in 2025 after a review showed that holding school board elections in even years would provide significant relief from the financial and logistical burdens that odd-year elections pose to the school district and its voters.

Elected school board members typically serve a four-year term once inducted in January of the following year. However, candidates may be elected to serve a shorter term if their predecessor vacated the school board seat before the end of their four-year term.

How do I run for school board?

A filing period for Affidavits of Candidacy will open in the summer before a school board election. A small fee may be charged to file. Affidavits of Candidacy will be available from the School District Clerk, Independent School District No. 199, 2990 80th Street E., Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076. A candidate for school board must:

be an eligible voter,
be 21 years of age or more on assuming office,
have been a resident of the School District from which the candidate seeks election for thirty (30) days before the general election, and
have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or general election.

When there is a measure for Independent School District No. 199 on the ballot, you may need to vote at your typical polling place or a combined polling place Election Day. Look up your polling place at pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us.

Who is eligible to vote in ISD 199 elections?

You may register to vote and cast your vote in Inver Grove Heights if you:

are a U.S. citizen,
will be at least 18 years old on election day,
will have resided in Inver Grove Heights for 20 days immediately preceding Election Day,
have any felony conviction record discharged, expired, or completed,
are not under court-ordered guardianship where a court has revoked your voting rights, and,
have not been ruled legally incompetent by a court of law

You must re-register each time you change your address, change your name, or do not vote for four years in a row. Update your registration by completing your voter registration online.

If you move to a new Minnesota residence, you can submit a United States Postal Service (USPS change-of-address form). USPS will notify election officials of the change. If election officials can match the record in their system, they will update your address and mail a green confirmation postcard to you.

You can also register to vote by checking a box on your driver's license application or renewal form.

In Minnesota, you must register at least 21 days before Election Day for your name to appear on the polling place roster. If you do not meet the registration deadline, you must register at your polling place on Election Day.
