ISD 199 Gifted Services

Inver Grove Heights Schools strives to provide rigor for all students. As part of that work, ISD 199 offers a continuum of services for identified gifted and talented students districtwide. The continuum is based on a Levels of Service approach.

  • Career pathways (Business and entrepreneurship, computer science and information technology, education, healthcare, transportation, and skilled trades)
  • Challenge-based learning, in which students use their interests to look deeper into local and global issues and collaborate with peers to help solve them.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) courses, College Level Examination Program (CLEP) courses, College in the Schools (CIS) courses, and concurrent enrollment options
Talent Development
  • Enrichment before, during, and after school (i.e. Link Crew, WEB, Student Advisory, Youth Executive Board, Drama, Math Masters, Math League, Robotics, Marching Band, etc.)
  • Competitions (i.e. WordMasters, Student Podcast Challenge, Quiz Bowl, Knowledge Bowl, etc.)
Specialized Services

Gifted Services at Each School

Hilltop, Pine Bend, & Salem Hills Elementary Schools
Hilltop, Pine Bend, and Salem Hills elementary school students in grades 2-5 identified as gifted have the opportunity to get direct service once a week throughout the school year. These enrichment groups focus on developing critical thinking and creativity skills for students through projects and critical thinking curriculum. District gifted services staff also support elementary school teachers in providing more challenging, in-depth learning opportunities for their advanced students.

Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program
ISD 199’s Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program is a school-within-a-school located at Salem Hills Elementary. Atheneum provides a full-time accelerated learning environment designed to meet the needs of exceptionally gifted students in grades 2-5. Application process and eligibility testing information can be found on our Atheneum webpage: www.isd199.org/atheneum.
