A nationally recognized school
Simley High School consistently ranks on U.S. News & World Report's annual Best High Schools list. The list ranks the top 40% of traditional, charter, magnet, and STEM high schools across the nation. Rankings are based on their scores in college readiness, math and reading proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum scope, and graduation rate.
In 2023, Simley has been ranked in the top 15% of Minnesota high schools on the Best High Schools list and in the top 20% of U.S. high schools on the list. The school was also recognized for its college readiness opportunities.
Digital Devices for All Students
Each high school student receives a device to use for the school year. Our teachers have been trained to integrate technology into their classrooms to further engage students and make learning more accessible.
Most Simley Teachers Have Earned Advanced Degrees
At Simley High School, 74% of the teachers have earned advanced degrees, such as a master's degree or more. This is compared to the state average of 56%. Our teachers are highly trained to provide the best educational experience during this critical time in a student's educational career.
Award-winning Arts and Athletics
Simley High School students have the opportunity to join band, choir, theatre, student clubs, and dozens of athletics programs. Simley's student athletes and arts students are frequently awarded for their outstanding accomplishments. Most recently, Simley wrestling has become the two-time state champion, the Simley Marching Band has won awards in multiple parade competitions, Simley's wind ensemble and symphonic band have earned top scores in the state's group and individual competitions, and Simley Theatre has earned national recognitions for its productions, cast, and crew. This is in addition to all of the Simley students who consistently compete, place, and win at state competitions in everything from cross country to bowling to speech.

Innovative, Hands-on Learning
Simley High School offers nearly 250 courses for students to choose from. An expansive wood shop, certified nursing assistant class lab, state-of-the-art theatre, and other learning facilites provide students with the space and supplies to immerse themselves in their education. Students also have hands-on opportunities off-campus in career exploration classes and courses provided through local colleges.
Simley students can step into the healthcare, transportation and skilled trades, computer science and information technology, or business and entrepreneurship field through the school's TriDistrict CAPS (Center for Advanced Professional Studies) program. Students develop professional skills, practice interviewing, and learn more about the industry with the help of business partners from the community. During the second semester of the CAPS program, students apply for internships with employers in the area. Simley students also have the opportunity to earn a paid internship through Genesys Works, become certified through the school's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) courses, and much more. Advanced Courses and College Credit
Simley ensures that every student graduates with college credit. Every junior will earn college credit in their English class, whether they take the standard Communications 11 course, which is a concurrent enrollment course designed in partnership with Inver Hills Community College, or choose an Advanced Placement (AP) course, which allows students to earn college credit based on their exam score at the end of the year.
Simley High School has one of the most extensive AP course selections in the area. Each AP option challenges students with college-level coursework that can lead to college credit through AP exams. They also encourage students to dive deeper into the subjects that interest them the most. Similarly, Simley's concurrent enrollment courses allow students to earn both college and high school credit while getting hands-on experience in post-secondary content. Some of Simley's concurrent enrollment offerings even include opportunities to earn professional certifications and internships.
Career Certification and Exploration
Simley High School's mission is to ensure that every student leaves with college credit or a professional certification. Over the years, the school has built career pathways to help students follow their interests and prepare for further study, training, or work opportunities within a career field. The class options within each pathway allow students to plan their education at Simley and beyond, prepare for their career goals, and understand how classes and careers fit together.
In addition to the classes that many high schools offer, Simley also offers opportunities for students to earn profession-based experience at the end of a pathway that has a value-added aspect, such as a certification, concurrent enrollment, or an internship. Opportunities currently include:
- a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification course
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certification courses
- the Genesys Works Internship program
- the Introduction to Urban Education course through Metropolitan State University
- the TriDistrict Career and College Readiness Initiative courses: Business & Entrepreneurship, Information Technology & Computer Science, Healthcare, and Transportation & Skilled Trades
