Student Advisory Council members talk about engagement in groupsEach year, Inver Grove Heights Schools selects students from 4th, 7th, and 11th grade to participate in the district’s Student Advisory Council. The council provides a student perspective on district issues. During their January meeting, the council talked about engagement. In small groups, students in every grade worked together to discuss what engagement looks like, feels like, and sounds like in a classroom. They also talked about what they would like to see more of in classrooms in order to increase student engagement.

The council will use the notes that they reviewed and summarized in the meeting to create a survey about engagement. The goal is to distribute the survey to other students in 4th, 7th, and 11th grade to learn more about student perspectives on the subject. The council will pass on what they learn to school staff in hopes of increasing engagement at all ISD 199 schools.
