In November of odd years, when a board member's term is set to end, residents living within Inver Grove Heights Schools (ISD 199) boundaries elect school board candidates to any open seats on the seven-member ISD 199 School Board.
Elected school board members typically serve a four-year term once inducted in January of the following year. However, candidates may be elected to serve a shorter term if their predecessor vacated the school board seat before the end of their four-year term.
Board members represent the public in their decisions for the students of Inver Grove Heights.
